Our sacramental life is the heart of our parish. The Sacraments connect us with Christ Risen as we journey through life. Growth of each parishioner in holiness is our #1 goal. The sacraments are our primary means of promoting and assisting such growth.

We usually celebrate BAPTISM on the second and fourth Sundays of each month after the last mass. We welcome the opportunity to baptize during a mass of the family's choice and will baptize at other times by special appointment. A Preparatory Class is required for parents and godparents if they have not previously participated in one.

EUCHARIST provides the heartbeat of our parish. We celebrate it everyday, opening our lives to God's Word of love made specially present for us in the bread and wine which the Spirit transforms in response to our prayer. Our second graders fully participate in EUCHARIST and receive COMMUNION for the first time in the April-May time frame each year after preparation either in our school or CCD classes.

We CONFIRM our eighth graders each year in the February-March time frame after they have completed their preparation, including a retreat. Adults who were never confirmed for one reason or another can celebrate the sacrament at the Cathedral in the Fall or in the parish as part of the Easter Vigil celebration.

We readily admit that we are a sinful people as we begin every celebration of the Eucharist. We celebrate the sacrament of RECONCILIATION/PENANCE every Saturday morning from 9-10am or by appointment. We hold communal celebrations of the sacrament in Advent and Lent in collaboration with neighboring parishes.

The SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered to individuals upon their request or that of their family. This sacrament strengthens us in body and spirit at times of our lives when we feel weak or face special health challenges, including surgeries. This Sacrament, together with Reconciliation and Eucharist/Viaticum are part of what are often referenced as 'the last rites.' The sacrament of the Sick is primarily for the sick, not the dying.

MARRIAGE is the ordinary way for most persons to respond to God's call to holiness. Diocesan and Parish policy requires that couples begin preparation for their Catholic wedding at least six months before the desired date. If either party has been married before, in the Catholic church or outside of it, they should speak with a priest before they set a date.

St. Nicholas parish has a long and proud tradition of nurturing vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Currently there are no members of the parish who are preparing to receive the sacrament of HOLY ORDERS through which the church confirms the desire of a person, inspired by God, to order their life to the service of God and God's People in and through the church.

All members of the parish and all persons interested in Catholic faith and life are encouraged to participate in the celebration of the sacraments frequently in their lives, for themselves and for others. Through the Eucharist our loving God and Father provides us with daily bread, forgives us our sins and helps us forgive others, and enables us to do God's will each day as we go about our tasks, thereby helping build and bring about the Kingdom of God.
