St. Nicholas Parish is collaboratively governed by the pastor working with the Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Council. The Pastoral Council is responsible for setting the vision of the parish and the specific goals and objectives which constitute current priorities. The Finance Council is responsible for governing the parish's assets in a way that enables realization of the vision.
The Pastoral Council consists of 15 elected and 5 appointed members together with ex officio staff members. The elected members serve for three year terms. Any confirmed member of the congregation can stand for election each year in May to assume office in September. The Pastor appoints individuals to complement those elected to help the Council be more fully representative and to bring particular strengths to its deliberations.
The Pastoral Council carries out its work thru committees that are established at the beginnig of each year. The Council meets every other month and the Committees during the months in-between. Ideally the Council deliberates on matters brought to its agenda by the Committees or the Pastor.
Decisions are reached by consensus when possible. While by Church las the Council is advisory, the pastor chooses to take its judgements as decisive whenever possible.
Parish Council members are listed on the cover of the weekly parish bulletin. Parishioners are encouraged to communicate their concerns and desires directly to parish council members or to the pastor, as they wish.
